Biyo Pay
Privacy policy
Effective 4 October 2026
Biyo Pay is the mobile app of the city water utilities that use it, including Gode Water Supply & Sewerage Service Office. Each city runs its own server and keeps its own customers' information; the city you sign in to is responsible for your data there. This policy explains what the app collects, why, who it is shared with and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Phone number: to sign you in with a one-time SMS code, find the water accounts registered to it, and send account messages.
- Name and language: from your water account, or as you enter them, to address you and show the app in your language.
- Water account information: account numbers, meter readings, water use, bills, payments and receipts, held by the water utility.
- Payments: the amount, the wallet you choose (for example Ebirr or Kaafi), your wallet number (your phone number) and the transaction reference. The app never sees your wallet PIN or any card number.
- Service requests: what you report or apply for, the details you enter, and, only if you choose to share them, your location and photos or documents (for a new connection this can include an ID card and proof of ownership, kept as sensitive documents).
- App PIN: stored on the server only as a secure hash. If you turn on fingerprint or face unlock, your PIN is kept encrypted in your phone's secure storage; your fingerprint or face never leaves your phone.
- Security records: the device name and network address used to sign in, to protect your account against misuse.
How we use it
Only to run the service: signing you in, showing your bills and water use, taking payments you approve, handling your service requests, sending SMS messages about your account (bills, payments, requests; you can turn these off in the app), and keeping the service secure.
We do not sell your information, show advertising, or track you across other apps or websites. The app contains no advertising or analytics trackers.
Who we share it with
- The water utility of your city, which provides the service and keeps its customer records.
- The mobile wallet you pay with, to process a payment you approve.
- Our SMS provider, to deliver sign-in codes and account messages.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
Security
All traffic between the app and the city server is encrypted (HTTPS). Sign-in tokens are kept in your phone's secure storage, payments need your app PIN, and repeated wrong PINs or codes lock further attempts.
Keeping and deleting your information
You can delete your Biyo Pay account at any time in the app: Profile → Delete account. This removes your app sign-in, your linked accounts and devices, and replaces your name and phone number on the app profile. Bills, payments and service requests remain part of the water utility's records, as utility and financial law requires.
See how to delete your account, including without the app.
Children
Biyo Pay is for water account holders and is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices and contact
You can view your information in the app, change your name and language, turn SMS alerts off, and delete your account. For any question about your data, or to ask for a copy or a correction, contact the customer service office of your city's water utility.
We will post changes to this policy on this page with a new effective date.
